Wednesday, 14th of April and it’s here again, every time I ……..
Hollup!
Wait a minute!!
It’s Thursday already
Omoooo, is this how time flies when you are doing what you love?
Wow!
So, in my first post I made a vow to update you guys on my UI/UX journey and here I am this early morning fulfilling that vow.
What have you been up to bro?
Yeah, first things first after the week-long training at The Incubator bootcamp, I immediately got to work. Learning and Re-learning what we were taught at the bootcamp, familiarizing myself with the Nigeria Design community on twitter.
Speaking about twitter, due to some undisclosed reasons, Jack has decided to revisit our beef and suspend my 5th account, the guy no dey rest at all.
On that note, please follow my new twitter
Putting twitter and Jack aside, I also watched a lot of YouTube tutorials and replicated their interface, Cool stuffs.
Then I started designing all by myself!
Ghenghen!!
This is where the tea is
Every time I thought I was through with an interface
Booooom
“Kunmie make this tweak”
“Guy add this feature”
“This Dashboard needs more characters”
Why was I always being indecisive during a design project?
Why was there always something to change and improve on?
Simple answer, WIREFRAMING
For non-designers reading this, Wireframing is basically designing a screen blueprint, a visual guide that represents the skeletal framework of a website or app.
For more context, imagine after creation then God then decides that
“I think another finger should be cool”
“Let’s add another leg maybe”
“An extra eye won’t look bad yunno”
Thank God he didn’t lol. He perfected everything during the building of the framework (or skeleton).
Another scenario is when 2 guys (Paul and Chibuzor) are planning on a vacation at Zamfara. Paul gets all his stuffs needed for the vacation prepared before the trip while Chibuzor just sets out and buys his vacation stuffs while driving down to Zamfara.
There is a very high probability that Chibuzor forgets to buy some stuffs and even if he gets all, he has wasted a lot of time while doing so. Paul on the other hand is just cruising because he has planned for the journey. You get?
That is the exact same principle in designing the User Interface of a project.
Wireframes are the skeleton of the entire project. You can’t be confused at any point of your design process if you have a good wireframe. It is just like building on a solid ground, Come rain or shine, you stand well.
Ever since I figured that out, I have applied that rule to my daily life too. I make sure I outline each day’s task and activities using the sticky notes I got from Barrister Seyi’s house (winks) and tbh it has improved my productivity levels
You can try it too!
That will be all for now!
